YOUNG LEADERS >> Blog
November 15, 2016
The second day of this year's Young Leaders Program started with a visit to the U.S. Embassy in Madrid (above), where leaders met with embassy staff from the political, economic and consular sections. There they enjoyed a conversation about how American interests are promoted and collaboration with Spain facilitated through the embassy.
The leaders then visited the European Council on Foreign Relations (above) where they had a lively discussion with Director Borja Lasheras about Spain's changing political landscape.
Afterwards, the group visited Casa de América (above, left) where they received a warm introduction from Ambassador Manuel Lejarreta, Secretary General of the Fundación Consejo España – EE.UU. While most of the group enjoyed a tour of the historic and beautiful Casa de América, leaders Raúl Vidal and Sen. Aaron Ford (D-NV) were interviewed by Spanish television (above right). After the tour, the leaders enjoyed lunch (below) with Fundación Consejo España – EE.UU. board members.
The leaders ended their day at El País newspaper, which started in 1976 as Spain was beginning its democratic transition. They were joined by Ambassador Manuel Lejarreta in their discussion with newspaper staff (below, left) and leader Raul de Vidal participated in a Facebook Live interview with El País’ international correspondent, Óscar Gutiérrez (below, right).
The first programmatic day of the trip was productive and many relationships with Spanish representatives were formed.
