Day 3

November 14, 2017

Day Three of the 2017 Young Leaders Program truly embraced Spanish politics and culture. Beginning with a tour of the beautiful Royal Theatre of Spain and a little operetta, the group next visited the U.S. Embassy in Madrid. Speaking directly to the implementers of American policy in Spain, the group learned about life as a Foreign Service Officer and policy nuances. For lunch, Director of the European Council on Foreign Relations Borja Lasheras discussed the intersections of the critical relationship between Spain, the States, and the European Union. Next, a fascinating discussion took place at the international law firm of URÍA & MENENDEZ where the group discussed Spanish law and the role of women in the Spanish legal profession. The evening concluded with traditional Spanish tapas and flamenco dancing. Olé!
